Our client, a leading pensions consultancy, is seeking a Consulting Actuary to join their growing Local Government Pension Scheme team. This role offers the opportunity to work within an award-winning LGPS practice, gaining broad exposure across Actuarial, governance and consulting projects while developing towards a Scheme or Corporate Actuary position.

 

This position would suit a Qualified Actuary, or someone close to qualification, with strong LGPS experience who is looking to further develop their consulting career, build their own client portfolio and take on greater responsibility within a supportive and collaborative environment.

 

Working across a portfolio of LGPS funds and employers, you’ll act as a trusted adviser, supporting clients across areas including funding strategy, employer risk, asset pooling, governance support, employer transitions and statutory reporting. You’ll work closely with Partners and Senior Actuaries to deliver high-quality advice, manage client relationships and identify opportunities to add value.

 

The role also offers the opportunity to take on Team Leader responsibilities, supporting delivery, reviewing colleagues’ work and helping coordinate workloads across the team. This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing LGPS practice with strong demand for Actuarial and governance support, including new regulatory-driven projects.

Key Responsibilities of the Consulting Actuary role:

  • Manage a portfolio of LGPS clients and employers, providing trusted Actuarial advice
  • Support Partners in developing client relationships and delivering high-quality solutions
  • Attend client meetings and contribute to discussions across a range of pension matters
  • Prepare and review actuarial reports, advice and presentations
  • Apply actuarial techniques to assess pension risks and uncertainties
  • Review colleagues’ work and support quality assurance processes
  • Support new business opportunities, tenders and pitch activity
  • Assist with workload coordination and team development

 

Skills & Experience required for the Senior LGPS Consulting Actuary role:

  • FIA / FAA qualification (or close to qualification)
  • Strong LGPS experience within pensions consulting
  • Defined Benefit pension experience is essential
  • Strong communication and relationship management skills
  • Excellent organisation and project management abilities
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality client work
