Our client, a growing Life Insurer, is looking to appoint a Senior Financial Risk Analyst into its expanding Risk function.

Reporting directly to the CRO, you’ll play a key role in providing second-line oversight and challenge across financial risks, working closely with the first-line teams to assess how risks are identified, monitored and managed.

The role offers broad exposure across credit risk, Asset Liability Management (ALM), investments and Bulk Purchase Annuity (BPA) activity, with the opportunity to contribute to senior-level reporting and key regulatory processes.

Why join?

  • Senior stakeholder exposure: report directly to the CRO and contribute to Executive and Board-level risk reporting.
  • Broad technical remit: work across credit risk, ALM, Matching Adjustment, BPA transactions and reinsurance arrangements.
  • Involvement in key business decisions: provide independent review and challenge on commercial proposals, investment activity and strategic projects.
  • Opportunity to develop: build your expertise across financial risk, regulatory requirements and the wider risk management framework.
  • Actuarial study support: available for candidates who are continuing their exams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide second-line oversight and challenge of financial risk management, working with first-line teams to assess the effectiveness of their frameworks and controls.
  • Review credit risk management, internal credit rating methodologies and ALM activities, including hedging strategies.
  • Oversee the management of risks associated with Matching Adjustment applications and ongoing compliance.
  • Contribute to the review and challenge of BPA transactions, reinsurance arrangements, investment activity and wider strategic projects.
  • Support independent validation of the Partial Internal Model (PIM) under Solvency UK, including tracking and reviewing the closure of findings.
  • Monitor financial risk metrics against the company’s Risk Appetite Framework and contribute to governance reporting.
  • Coordinate inputs to the Own Risk and Solvency Assessment (ORSA) Report.
  • Support the development and maintenance of the Enterprise Risk Management and Risk Appetite frameworks, including risk assessments, controls and incident reviews.

About You

  • Experience in financial risk management within Life Insurance and/or Pensions, from either a first- or second-line role.
  • Understanding of the UK regulatory environment and financial risks relevant to a Life Insurer or BPA provider.
  • Knowledge of investments and credit risk, ideally including illiquid assets.
  • Experience of ALM, or a good understanding of its principles and application.
  • Strong analytical, communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to challenge constructively and develop practical solutions.
  • Actuarial experience or an equivalent background in areas such as non-equity investments or credit risk management.

Experience of BPA and/or Solvency II Internal Models would be beneficial, but is not essential.

Benefits

  • 28 days’ annual leave plus bank holidays
  • Annual performance-related bonus
  • Competitive pension plan, 10% employer contribution
  • Private medical insurance
  • Actuarial study support, where applicable
  • Hybrid working arrangements
