Our client is seeking a Senior Consulting Actuary to join their award-winning Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) team. This role is aimed at Qualified Actuaries with strong LGPS experience who are looking to further develop their consulting career, build their own client portfolio, and progress towards a Scheme Actuary or Corporate Actuary position.

 

Joining a growing team with strong demand for LGPS Actuarial and governance support, you’ll gain broad exposure across a diverse range of projects, including funding strategy, employer risk, asset pooling, governance support, employer transitions, and statutory reporting.

 

You’ll act as a trusted adviser to LGPS funds and employers, working closely with Partners and Senior Actuaries to deliver high-quality advice, manage client relationships, and identify opportunities to support clients. There is also scope to take on Team Leader responsibilities, supporting delivery, reviewing colleagues’ work, and helping coordinate workloads across the team.

Key Responsibilities of the Senior Consulting Actuary role:

  • Manage a portfolio of LGPS clients and employers, providing trusted actuarial advice
  • Support Partners in developing client relationships and delivering high-quality solutions
  • Attend client meetings, contributing to discussions across a range of pension matters
  • Prepare and review actuarial reports, advice, and presentations
  • Apply actuarial techniques and principles to assess pension risks and uncertainties
  • Review colleagues’ work and support quality assurance processes
  • Support new business opportunities, including tenders and pitch activity
  • Assist with workload coordination and team development
  • Maintain awareness of current pensions developments and share relevant insights with clients

Skills & Experience required for the Senior Consulting Actuary role:

  • Fully Qualified Actuary (FIA / FAA)
  • Strong LGPS experience gained within pensions consulting
  • Strong Defined Benefit pension experience
  • Excellent communication and relationship management skills
  • Strong organisation and project management abilities
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality client work
  • Experience supporting or mentoring junior colleagues would be beneficial
